Spiritual Uplift 8/8/07

August 8, 2007
“I don’t like work – no man does – but I like what is in work – the chance to find yourself. Your own reality – for yourself, not for others – what no other man can ever know.”–Joseph Conrad–

It’s summertime! How many days have you awakened and said, “Only ‘X’ days until the weekend.”? When did we decide that work was a drudgery, to be avoided at all costs, and that life begins again at our next ‘play day’?

When Evan Hodkins goes to work, providing one of his Alchemy seminars, he invites all of his attendees to, “Come play with me!” How did he come to decide that work was play? He chooses to.

Life, work and play, is an experience of Spirit, God expressing Himself through the highest and best good in each of us. When we open ourselves up to this fact at work we find ourselves tied to the present moment. When we are doing our best, whatever that is, and know that what we give is pure and authentic to who we are, we are at peace.

In the innocence of childhood we played at work. Whether we were a fireman, nurse, doctor, or housewife we each took on our duties with excitement and a desire to do our best. Take back this innocence. Return to play. Know that God has made all experiences perfect and complete in conjunction with our thoughts and desires. Even work.

“The trouble with the rat race is that even if you win you’re still a rat.”

–Lilly Tomlin–.

A Brief Word from Rumi

This being human is a guest-house. Every morning a new arrival. A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture. Still, treat each guest honorably. She may be clearing you out for some new delight. The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in. Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.

“Father, Thou art in me, I am well.”
—-Paramahansa Yogananda—
