Wednesday Spiritual Uplift

  Honoring the Hero in Us All May 30, 2007

“I do the very best I know how–the very best I can; and I mean to keep on doing so until the end.”

–Abraham Lincoln–

This past weekend we recognized Memorial Day. Once known as Decoration Day, it was set aside originally to remember those who died fighting in the American Civil War. Later the remembrance grew to include all who died fighting for a cause they believed to be worthy, and for most of us, to include all those who have made their transitions. Many of the people that we honor on Memorial Day we consider to be heroes, ones who have “saved the day” in some manner with an act of personal sacrifice or valor. And yet we are all heroes to someone. When we behave in a way that reflects the Divine Spirit within us, we can make a profound difference in the lives of the people around us and around the world. Most of us don’t have one shining moment that distinguishes our life; rather, we do our best, and the world is better for it.

For whom are you a hero? A child to whom you provide guidance? An elder for whom you are a patient listening ear? A friend whose life is enriched by your presence? A community recovering from disaster? A spiritual community where you allow your divine light to shine through your volunteering? We don’t necessarily start out to be heroes, but our simple acts of love and compassion can make the difference we wish to see in the world.

“That some achieve great success, is proof to all that others can achieve it as well.”

–Abraham Lincoln–.

Next Sunday: The Unanswered Prayer

We prayed and prayed, why did our prayer go unanswered? Nothing shakes faith more than unanswered prayer! Join Reverend Charllotte this Sunday, June 3, 2007 for a special talk on the reasons we get in the way of our prayers.

This is one you won’t want to miss!

Sunday Inspirational Reading
The Call
From The Science of Mind – 1926
By Ernest Holmes

This I saw, or else some inner presence made it know to me;

The Universe is filled with life; the air, the sky, the sea
Teem with intelligence, with majesty and might;
And deep within me, some subtle inner sight
Beholds and sees, comprehends and knows the All,
Nor fears nor falters, but answers the Divine Call
To be as one beyond the bounds of time and space,
To overcome the bondage of the human race,
And leap, with trust undaunted, free,
Into the deeps of that Infinite Sea
Whose waters, calm, are ready to receive
Those, who in simple faith, believe.
