Creating a Prayer

November 10, 2008

Here’s a link on the United Centers for Spiritual Living webpage that details how to put together a prayer:  INTERACTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS BUILDER. It leads you step by step through the parts of an Affirmative Prayer giving examples for each step.

Step 5: Release

August 24, 2007

We release these words now, Knowing in the Mind of God they are already completed. We let go and let God. Saying together … so it is.

On the Law of Attraction Universe blog Frank Butterfield has a great metaphor that can be applied to this step:

Imagine that you are holding onto a helium balloon.

This balloon is filled with all of your intention and desire. It has every piece of information about what you seek to manifest and attract to you.

If you hold on to the balloon, it will stay nearby and you can keep tabs on it. You can look at it, and think about it, and worry about it.

The problem is that nothing will ever happen if you keep holding on to it.

By releasing it to the sky, you are sending you desire and intention out to the Universe.

Similarly at the end of an Affirmative Prayer the last step is the Release. You know completely and fully that it is true, you’ve expressed your gratitude. Now let go and trust the process, trust the Law of Cause and Effect to work as it must.

So what balloon are you holding onto? Let go and let God.

Step 4: Gratitude

August 23, 2007

Awash in the Magnificence of Sprit, in the Divine Power and Presence of God right now, I am profoundly grateful for all of our blessings. I am so thankful that we are all immersed in the One Source and completely, perfectly express ourselves as beautiful emanations of this Pure Love and Light. I am bliss-filled at the sweetness of this Truth for each and everyone of us.

Once you completely and utterly KNOW your prayer is true in the Realization, the next step in Affirmative Prayer is to express your Gratitude for this new truth.

Here is a less spiritual description what is essentially equivalent to the Gratitude portion of Affirmative Prayer:

He would say, “I thank the Universe for…” and follow this with a detailed description of his desired outcome. By using what I call his “Future Thanks” method, he was suggesting to both his conscious and unconscious minds that he was already in the future. Because it is not possible to say ‘thank you’ for something that has not yet occurred without shaking up one’s perception of time, in a sense this moved him into a state which was quite outside ordinary experience. Moving outside of our present concept of time obviously places us in a different position relative to creating what we want in our lives. We are, in a sense, accessing a different Reality when we do that. EFT & Future Thanks

Step 3: Realization

August 22, 2007

Recognizing the Infinite Spirit that is within each and every one of us and within all life; and knowing One Source, One God, One Divinity; an Infinite Loving Intelligence in which All is Possible; and Realizing God as Pure Love and Light– an always present and always shining perfection. We recognize God as Source from which all life is created and bountifully supplied. We know God is all there is in each and every grace-filled moment.

The third step in Affirmative Prayer is the Realization. In the Recognition step, we know that everything is God, nothing is not God. In the Unification step we know that we contain all that is God which means we contain everything. In Realization we choose that part of the everything that we want to express. It is wholly my choice in this moment what part of God I will express in this moment. This is part of the Law of Cause and Effect which contains the Law of Attraction that is so popular now. By who I am and what I believe in this moment I create my future.

It has been repeatedly pointed out by serious thinkers on this subject that in order to bring about something you desire in the future, you must step into the future in an emotional sense, you must in a sense transcend time. To pay lip service to the concept of imagining something to be present which is not present right now is of course easy, but anyone conversant with the concept of “like attracts like” as expressed by the Law of Attraction, knows that you must be resonating with the very essence of that which you want in order to attract it into your life –– and this is not something that comes naturally to most people. Pat Carrington Using EFT with the Secret

This is essentially a description of the Realization portion of Affirmative Payer. KNOWING that something is true. It is important to stay in with this step until you know whatever you are praying for is true, completely and utterly true. If you are having trouble with this step, one possibility for change is to go to someone else who can know it for you. Pray with a Practitioner” after church is perfect for this or for a more in-depth session you can set up an appointment with a Practitioner for a Practitioner Session.

Step 2: Unification

August 21, 2007

In this knowing of Divine Oneness, I know God is in, through, and as me. I am one as God, Divinely filled and surrounded every moment of everyday. The beauty, peace, and wonder of God totally envelopes every part of my being. And in this knowing of Oneness, God envelopes all people in every moment, every condition and all circumstances, for God is all there is. We are all unique expressions of the One Mind, One truth and the One God.

The second step in Affirmative Prayer is Unification. Each one of us is one with God. The best example I’ve seen is the comparison to a hologram. If you take a little tiny piece of a hologram, it still contains the entire holographic picture within it. This is the unifications step – even though I am only a small part of the whole that is God, I contain within me ALL that is God.

Step 1: Recognition

August 20, 2007

Recognizing the Infinite Spirit that is within each and every one of us and within all life; and knowing One Source, One God, One Divinity; an Infinite Loving Intelligence in which All is Possible; and Realizing God as Pure Love and Light– an always present and always shining perfection. We recognize God as Source from which all life is created and bountifully supplied. We know God is all there is in each and every grace-filled moment.

The first step in Affirmative Prayer is the Recognition that God is All. There exists nothing in this universe that is not God – All emotions, All circumstance, All material existence are all contained within the wholeness that is God.

August 19, 2007

Welcome to the 5 new Practitioners: Georgia Woodworth, Edward Keneski, Jeanette Keter, Michael Keter and Lael Walters!

This Sunday’s Service is about the 5 steps to Affirmative Prayer.

Recognition:

Recognizing the Infinite Spirit that is within each and every one of us and within all life; and knowing One Source, One God, One Divinity; an Infinite Loving Intelligence in which All is Possible; and Realizing God as Pure Love and Light– an always present and always shining perfection. We recognize God as Source from which all life is created and bountifully supplied. We know God is all there is in each and every grace-filled moment.

Unification:

In this knowing of Divine Oneness, I know God is in, through, and as me. I am one as God, Divinely filled and surrounded every moment of everyday. The beauty, peace, and wonder of God totally envelopes every part of my being. And in this knowing of Oneness, God envelopes all people in every moment, every condition and all circumstances, for God is all there is. We are all unique expressions of the One Mind, One truth and the One God.

Realization:

I know and accept the Power, Presence, Intelligence of Divine Spirit in me and the people around me this very moment. I know that the gifts of Spirit are not owed to me but already in me. I open myself to the wellspring of goodness I want in my life. I know absolutely that the Love of God, the Beauty of God, the Happiness of God permeates every person and every object in this House of God making this moment unique and perfect.

Gratitude:

Awash in the Magnificence of Sprit, in the Divine Power and Presence of God right now, I am profoundly grateful for all of our blessings. I am so thankful that we are all immersed in the One Source and completely, perfectly express ourselves as beautiful emanations of this Pure Love and Light. I am bliss-filled at the sweetness of this Truth for each and everyone of us.

Release:

We release these words now, Knowing in the Mind of God they are already completed. We let go and let God. Saying together … so it is.

What Is the Science of Mind?

April 21, 2007

The Community for Spiritual Living is a member church of the United Centers for Spiritual Living/United Church of Religious Science. We teach the Science of Mind and Spirit as conceived by Ernest Holmes:

The Science of Mind is built on the theory that there is One Infinite Mind which of necessity includes all that is, whether it be the intelligence in man, the life in the animal, or the invisible Presence which is God. In it we learn to have a spiritual sense of things…

One of our fundamental propositions is that God is all there is. When you say God is all there is, that includes everything, all possibility and all action, for Spirit is the invisible essence and substance of all form

It is a basic proposition in our philosophy that we live in a mental or spiritual universe and that things can be resolved into thoughts. This is the foundation upon which all scientific practice must be established, and when you are able to establish this premise in your own thought, you at once find yourself equipped with an instrument through which you can change your environment….

Science of Mind Principles

January 8, 2007

Closely related to Reverend Wanda’s talk yesterday is the Science of Mind “Declaration of Principles”. Taken form Ernest Holmes, they are copied here for your review.

We Believe in God, the Living Spirit Almighty; one indestructible, absolute, and self-existent Cause. This One manifests Itself in and through all creation but is not absorbed by Its creation. The manifest universe is the body of God; it is the logical and necessary outcome of the infinite self-knowingness of God.

We Believe in the incarnation of the Spirit in everyone and that all people are incarnations of the One Spirit.

We Believe in the eternality, the immortality, and the continuity of the individual soul, forever and ever expanding.

We Believe that heaven is within us and that we experience it to the degree that we become conscious of IT.

We Believe the ultimate goal of life to be a complete emancipation from all discord of every nature, and that this goal is sure to be attained by all.

We Believe in the unity of all life, and that the highest God and the innermost God is one God.

We Believe that God is personal to all who feel this indwelling Presence.

We Believe in the direct revelation of Truth through the intuitive and spiritual nature of the individual, and that any person may become a revealer of Truth who lives in close contact with the indwelling God.

We Believe that the Universal Spirit, which is God, operates through a Universal Mind, which is the Law of God; and that we are surrounded by the Creative Mind which receives the direct impress of our thought and acts upon it.

We Believe in the healing of the sick through the Power of this Mind.

We Believe in the control of conditions through the Power of this Mind.

We Believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving-kindness, and the eternal Givingness of Life to all.

We Believe in our own soul, our own spirit, and our own destiny; for we understand that the life of all is God.
